Blog

This blog is a simple list of progress made at the association, key decisions taken, and developments.  This association is intended to create a lobby for the resumption of proper distribution of MYOB-related software in the UK and Eire.  We will make available all news that we can - as it occurs.  If you would like to give us a tip please email us at: info@myobusergroup.co.uk

However we much prefer participation in the Forums on the next tab: Forums

As part of our restructuring of this group we have decided to unify all membership renewal dates, as at 1st August.  All existing memberships will end at the end of July.  This is part of our process to streamline all our processes so that we can reduce our costs for a membership group that is now only a small fraction of the number when we first started twelve years ago.

New membership rates are as follows.

Full membership due August - July in advance £70

Advisory only due August - July in advance £35

Professional membership is now subsumed in Full membership for those Full members who qualify.

If you consider that this process has unfairly reduced the value of any membership fees that you have recently sent us then please ask us to reconsider.  Just send us an email to info@myobusergroup.co.uk

SO we ran codes for over 100 businesses today.  They are all operating software over 13 years old.  We hope that they are continuing to be successful despite all the pressures.

We are continuing to offer this service.  However there are many threats to what we do.  MYOB is now a firmly legacy software. If anything in our operation fails there is no safeguard. Nobody to sue!

Making Tax digital for VAT makes it compulsory to file electronically for all UK vat-registered businesses from April 22.  For those unsure of what they are doing this will become a problem.  There is a threat that the old MYOB software will become incompatible with operating systems.  There is a deeper threat that the code calculation mechanism will suddenly become inoperable.

There is even a threat that the way that we have rescued MYOB users will become inoperable.  We could lose the ability to upgrade datafiles to Acclivity account edge (which we have now done for over a hundred ex-MYOB users).

If there was a moment to move on... this is it.

We offer a general support to all Accountedge users through this website and will gradually reorientate our work here to support this new software.

HMRC have now put back the start date for Making Tax Digital (MTD) for some businesses and organisations until the first VAT period starting on or after 1 October 2019. This deferral applies to trusts, not-for-profit organisations (unless they are run through a limited company), divisional and group registrations, businesses based overseas, plus those required to make VAT payments on account or who use the VAT Annual Accounting scheme.

Businesses with a VAT threshold below £1.35m per year can use the VAT Annual Accounting Scheme - and this is a good way to delay the MTD problem.

In addition, the recent House of Lords report, Making Tax Digital for VAT: Treating Small Businesses Fairly seeks to delay the start of MTD for all businesses. The report states that HMRC, taxpayers and the software market are unprepared for the implementation of MTD for VAT in April 2019. It recommends that the Government defers the date for mandating MTD for VAT for all businesses by at least one year, while encouraging businesses to join voluntarily. We will wait and see whether any of its conclusions are accepted by the Government.

Email us at info@myobusergroup.co.uk if you'd like us to help you simplify your path to MTD,

The HMRC's Making Tax Digital (MTD) will go live in April 2019 for VAT. We have examined  options for MYOB and Acclivity users and expect to be able to provide a solution for uploading the required data.   Have a look at the discussion of the issues on our forum and have your say!

    Go to our MTD Forum.
