Online Confirmation Code process undermined by Mac OS Security

The confirmation process is set to run through until December 31st only.  Some users have found that they cannot connect to online confirmation.  Mamut UK and MYOB Technology Pty (Australia) may appear to have ended the online confirmation process.  This is not the case.

The error is mainly occuring with any MYOB version 13-18 on the Mac.  The Mac software automatically checks whether you are operating the latest version.  Sometimes the security settings are reset by the download of a new OS version.

The effect is that the local Mac will not accept the return confirmation code online.  It looks like MYOB has connected... but return code is now trapped outside the local MYOB software.  Eventually the MYOB confirmation software will time out and the system will ask you to phone MYOB's 0845 number.  Mamut believe that the Mac OS security is to blame, not MYOB.

The recent surge of enquiries is something to do with most recent security patches/updates to the Mac OS.  When you download the latest update the problem is triggered.

The confirmation process is shared between you as a user and the manual confirmation process used by Mamut staff.  It is simply an Internet portal whch using the same software server at MYOB's offices in Australia.  If MYOB Australia do what they threaten and the confirmation process does get turned off - then the process will end for Mamut at the same time as users.

The view of the Mamut staff is still that 31st Dec is still intended as the end date for end of manual and other reconfirmations.  Confirmation may last for 6 to 9 months.  But there are no guarantees.  Confirmation might be prompted by other matters such as system clock change, power cut, system upgrade, network having differing system times.  Normally the system gives you 14 days before it makes the files go read-only.  However if one of these other errors occurs there may be no notice before the system goes to read-only.

Meanwhile the Mamut Mac software is confirmed via Acclivity's servers.  It is a different process, with renewal of the software, not the datafile.  The Acclivity licence is annual, and has to be paid for if you use Accountedge Plus or the support contract.  If you buy Accountedge (only) via the Apple shop you can avoid this.

Panicy MYOB users have had their files fall due for renewal.  They have been presented with the registration screen for the first time.  The screen has a phone number at the bottom for MYOB... which they have called.  They have been connected with the Mamut sales team.  These people have then tried to persuade them to convert to Mamut PC products (which are radically different).

This is just a foretaste of the chaos that is likely to happen at the beginning of next year.

We have also had a report that Mamut sales staff are advising those calling that using the Association is a breach of copyright.  We reject this - we have been very careful not to engage in piracy.  The codes are only issued to those who are entitled to the services that they unlock.  Mamut's misuse of the licencing regulations is laughable.  They have colluded with MYOB to allow revoking of the licence terms of thousands of MYOB licence holders.
